NOV Inc. appointed Robert Welborn, an executive at Facebook Inc., to its board of directors, the Houston-based oilfield service company said in an Oct. 20 release.
“Robert is an accomplished technology executive and a leading innovator in the fields of data sciences and digital technologies,” Clay Williams, NOV’s chairman, president and CEO, commented in the release.
At Facebook, Welborn serves as the head of programs data science within the tech giant’s small business group where he oversees the development of solutions used by over 140 million businesses around the world. Prior to Facebook, he held various positions within General Motors, including global chief data and analytics officer and served in several positions of increasing responsibility at USAA, including chief data scientist.
“We are excited to welcome Robert to our board,” Williams continued, “and are confident that his extensive expertise will provide us with invaluable perspectives as we continue to pioneer leading-edge technology solutions for the global energy industry.”
For more than 150 years, NOV has pioneered innovations that enable its customers across the energy sector to safely produce abundant energy while minimizing environmental impact. The company’s diverse portfolio of services includes solutions in onshore and offshore production, drilling and completion as well as the energy transition space.
With Welborn’s board appointment, effective Oct. 20, NOV’s board of directors is now composed of 10 directors, nine of which are independent members.
