Energy industry veteran Leslie Beyer was appointed to assistant secretary of land and minerals management at the U.S. Department of the Interior on Feb. 3.

Once confirmed by the Senate, Beyer will serve under Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and oversee four agencies within the DOI: the Bureau of Land Management; Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement; Bureau of Ocean Energy Management; and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

Beyer will also help to steer the land use of 245 million federal surface lands, 700 million acres of federal mineral interests and the 1.7 billion-acre Outer Continental Shelf.

In 2021, Beyer was named one of Hart Energy’s 25 Influential Women in Energy. At the time, Beyer was serving as the CEO of Energy Workforce & Technology Council (EWTC) and had more than 15 years of domestic energy policy experience.

Beyer currently serves on the board of directors for oilfield manufacturing company Forum Energy Technologies Inc. and is a member of the nominating, governance and sustainability committee and the compensation and human capital committee. She also serves on the board of Patterson-UTI and Veriten.

EWTC and Forum congratulated Beyer in her presidential appointment.

Beyer’s “leadership at EWTC helped shape meaningful policy discussions, and we are confident that she will bring the same level of dedication and expertise to the Department of the Interior,” EWTC President Tim Tarpley said. “We look forward to working with her in this new capacity."

Forum President and CEO Neal Lux called Beyer “an extraordinary leader with a proven track record, and her extensive experience enhances board room discussions.”

“Leslie’s focus on key energy issues throughout her career demonstrates the deep commitment she has to our industry,” Lux said. “She is an excellent choice as our country navigates critical energy challenges.”
