Ormat Technologies Inc. has secured 1,678 acres from an auction hosted by Utah’s Bureau of Land Management for the development of two power plants, the company said Dec. 23.

The power plants will be built near the geothermal energy company’s Cove Fort Facility. Exploration work for the first plant will begin in 2025. A commercial operation date is expected for 2027 depending on resource availability. The second plant will be developed thereafter.

“We believe the parcels we targeted and successfully won have a high probability of success that will support our short- and long-term growth plans in the U.S.,” said Doron Blachar, CEO of Ormat Technologies, in the press release.

Financial details for the lease acquisitions were not disclosed.
