Houston’s Parker Wellbore and international technology company TDE have entered into a strategic alliance to revolutionize the well drilling process, the companies said in a March 13 joint press release.
The partnership will perform pilot projects and commercialize TDE’s proprietary tde powerline downhole power and data highway and provide tde powerline services globally.
The companies called the tde powerline digital system the industry’s first downhole “high power, high bandwidth data highway.” The technology will enable intelligent digital drilling systems — a key enabler for AI-driven solutions and drilling automation, the news release said.
The tde powerline wired drill pipe technology provides electric power from the surface via the drill string to the bottom hole assembly and “greatly increases downhole data streaming while drilling to levels not seen today,” the press release said.
The tde powerline technology delivers 300 watts of power and supports bidirectional communication at 200,000 bits per second – a near-fourfold increase from current wired drill pipe data rates or 10,000 times mud pulse data rates.
The technology can also be retrofitted to existing drill pipes.
Through the companies' partnership, the tde powerline will contribute to a greener and more efficient drilling process, including reducing non-productive time and improving safety by eliminating pulsers, turbines and batteries, the companies said. The digital service will enable a continuous view of at-bit conditions and along-string measurements will drive decision-making, improving safety, efficiency and accuracy.
