A rig that combines the capabilities of a lift boat and workover rig has been patented by Blake Offshore LLC. The rig, Blake 101, is a completion and workover jackup rig with a unique combination of features, according to the company.
Blake 101 is self-propelled, eliminating the need for tugs. It has a double-stand derrick and a power swivel with up to 85-ton capacity. The 600-hp drawworks has dual prime-mover redundancy. A 100-ton crane with 100-ft (30.5-m) boom for 72-in. caisson driving eliminates the need to use expensive jackups for driving caissons.
The rig has the flexibility to use 135¼8-in., 11-in. and
71¼16-in. blowout preventers. For completions, workovers and fracturing operations, well depth capability is 15,000 ft (4,575 m) for 23¼8-in. tubing and 13,000 ft (3,965 m) for 27¼8-in. tubing. The rig can operate in water depths to 140 ft (42.7 m) and has zero-discharge capability.
