Dan Pickering, founder and chief investment officer at Pickering Energy Partners, joined Hart Energy’s Jessica Morales to discuss the firm’s recent merger and how it relates to the ramp-up in energy transition and ESG trends.
Pickering Energy Partners announced a merger in late February with SailingStone Capital Partners LLC, an investment firm with one of the most experienced public equities teams focused on global natural resources, natural gas and the upstream resources associated with energy transition, according to Pickering.
“The key to this combination is that together we can attack publics and privates,” he said. “They’ve got a fabulous network of institutional investors, as do we. The ability to maybe do more on the energy transition front, in general, both public and private.”
“We think it’s the right opportunity set to bring our firms together and our timing feels pretty good as some of the headwinds in the energy patch turn into tailwinds,” he added.
Pickering, which spoke to Hart Energy early into the pandemic in 2020, also continued the discussion on what truly is the path forward for the oil and gas industry now almost a year later and how companies can take advantage of the energy transition by finding the intersection between the growing demand for lower carbon and the ability to generate returns.
