Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) and Imperial College London have announced a joint cooperation in the establishment of a new academic Chair in Reservoir Geophysics. The 5-year plan will see the announcement of a new Professor at Imperial College and a new joint agreement between the two parties.

Prof. Mike Warner of the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College commented, "This sponsorship will enable the college to establish a new international masters program in Reservoir Geophysics, attracting and educating the best of a new generation. The world faces a huge challenge to meet its increasing energy needs; this strategic alliance between Europe’s leading technical university and an international geophysical company takes us closer to meeting that challenge."

In addition to the establishment of a new curriculum, there will also be levels of cooperation on research and development with both parties being able to draw on the experience and know-how of the other. “We are at a point where investment into the future is very important to PGS” comments Sverre Strandenes, Group President for Data Processing and Technology. “PGS needs to collaborate with the best academic minds, both young and old, so that we can continue the levels of innovation that have become expected of us.”

The program will start for the 2007/2008 academic year and details will become available from Imperial College as soon as the new professor has been announced.
