Offshore driller Seadrill Ltd. and manufactured products provider Oil States International are partnering up to increase the efficiency and safety of offshore managed pressure drilling (MPD) operations, the companies said in a Sept. 17 press release.

Seadrill’s high-spec fleet of floating drilling vessels will combine with Oil States’ MPD integrated riser joint system in an effort to simplify and standardize MPD systems in the offshore drilling sector.

“We look forward to a long-term relationship with Seadrill as we supply them with multiple MPD [integrated riser joints] for their fleet of high-performance vessels,” Oil States President and CEO, Cindy Taylor said. “While supporting Seadrill’s adoption and integration of our MPD system, we endeavor to optimize our equipment to allow for oil and gas reserves to be unlocked safely and efficiently to meet growing global energy demands.”

Oil States’ compact integrated riser joints lessen nonproductive time when dealing with deepwater MPD operations by safely handling gas influx and allowing the rig to remain over the well while testing the retrievable seals within the joint. The integrated riser is equipped with twin retrievable annular seals, a passive rotating control device bearing assembly and hard-faced bore.

The collaboration will allow Seadrill to standardize its managed pressure drilling efforts with a safe and cost-effective technology, Seadrill said in the press release.
