In an unusual approach to applying new technology, Energy Exploration Technologies Inc. (NXT) is both offering an exploration technology to clients and using it internally. The company's chief executive officer, George Liszicasz, invented a technology called Stress Field Detector (SFD) that measures the difference in stress energy produced between hydrocarbon-bearing structures and the surrounding region. NXT has developed a multisensor airborne survey system for oil and gas exploration.
The general idea behind the technology is that tectonic events can create hydrocarbon traps, and measuring the redistribution of stress in the earth's crust can indicate the presence of these traps because the stress increases around them. Sensitive passive sensors pick up the stress-induced energy but are not affected by conventional energy forms.
NXT officials hope to aid in exploration by reducing the time to production, the exploration cost and the exploration risk. SFD technology offers the opportunity to quickly and cost-effectively identify an inventory of high-quality and low-risk prospect areas for further exploration and development. The sensor system allows for onshore and offshore operations with no environmental impact.
