Sintana Energy Inc. reported oil and gas discoveries offshore Namibia in the Orange Basin under a joint venture in which it has an interest in.
The Mopane-2A well found gas condensate in one reservoir in AVO-3 and light oil in a smaller one at AVO-4, Sintana said. The well is in petroleum exploration license (PEL) 83 and is operated by a subsidiary of Galp Energia of Portugal.
Sintana has an indirect 49% interest in Custos Energy Ltd., which owns 10% working interest in PEL 83.
Galp and its partners said they’ll use what they’ve learned to further their understanding of the region’s prospects.
The drillship used for the Mopane-2A well is now moving to a new location and was set to spud Jan. 1.
