In an effort to boost the country’s solar capacity, Philippine-based Citicore Group reached a master services agreement with Trina Solar for the supply of 700 megawatts worth of solar modules, according to an Oct. 30 press release.

Under the agreement, Trina Solar’s high-power, high efficiency Vertex DE21 modules will be used for Citicore’s upcoming solar plants across the Philippines. The modules will be delivered in 2024.

“The procurement of PV panels from Trina Solar is part of our efforts to secure high-quality and efficient technology for our projects,” said Oliver Tan, CEO and president of Citicore Renewable Energy Corp., the renewable energy operator under Citicore Group’s umbrella, in a press release.

Vertex is Trina Solar’s flagship product. Compatible with  smart trackers, the Vertex DE21 is a 670W+, mono-facial module delivering energy yield with a lower levelized cost of energy and lower balance of system cost. These modules incorporate 210mm-long solar cells produced using non-destructive cutting technology, multi-busbar for greater light absorption and high-density encapsulation technology to maximize the module’s surface area.

Citicore’s solar plants are part of its 1-gigawatt (GW) project pipeline, which plans to reach 5 GW in five years. The project will help Citicore build committed capacity in connection with the government’s Green Energy Auction Program.

“The Philippines is a market with strong potential to harness solar energy for both consumer use and power production,” Todd Li, president of Trina Solar Asia Pacific, said in a press release. “We see enormous opportunities for deployment of solar to help the nation move towards a green net-zero future.”
