1 Source Energy, San Diego, has set production pipe at the #1 SE Garrison City, a new wildcat in Section 15-28s-24e MD, Kern County, Calif. The venture, which was drilled to an approximate depth of 3,500 ft., is 1.25 miles southwest of Garrison City Field, reports IHS Energy Group. Also, several other new wildcats in the state have been started, including a test in Santa Barbara County and one in Colusa County. The former, the #1-19 Ross & Howe Castillo, is being drilled by Bakersfield independent Temblor Petroleum in Section 19-8n-32w SB. The Colusa County project, Salt Lake City-based Equity Oil Co.'s #1-21 Robb, is being drilled in Section 21-15n-1w MD. 2 Devonian production has been established at shallower-pool discoveries in two Montana fields, the result of Ordovician Red River wells being worked over. In Richland County, Continental Resources Inc., Enid, Okla., recorded a flow of 167 bbl. of oil, 72,000 cu. ft. of gas and 102 bbl. of water per day from Dawson Bay at the #1-4 Williams in Section 4-23n-55e, Red Water East Field. The well was tested on an 18/64-in. choke through perforations at 10,885-87 ft. To the northeast in neighboring Roosevelt County's Big Muddy Creek Field, Wyoming Resources Corp., Rapid City, S.D., pumped 122 bbl. of oil and 113 bbl. of water per day from Duperow, perforated at 10,250-56 ft., at #1-28A Alpar-State in Section 28-29n-55e. 3 Startech Energy, Calgary, reportedly is testing Lower Cretaceous Kootenai at a depth near 4,300 ft. after running production casing at its wildcat the #7-29 Teton in Section 29-27n-8w, Teton County, Mont., according to the Rocky Mountain Oil Journal. The prospect is about three miles north of Mississippian Disturbed Belt production in Blackleaf Canyon Field. 4 One North Dakota wildcat is being drilled by Armstrong Operating Inc., Dickinson, N.D., and the company is rigging up rotary tools at another. Drilling is under way at the 8,500-ft. #19-1 Burtman in Section 19-160n-97w, Divide County, reports IHS Energy Group. Mississippian Madison is to be tested. Meanwhile, the Rocky Mountain Oil Journal reports Armstrong's second venture-the #27-1 Hammer-is several miles to the east, in Section 27-160n-83w, Bottineau County. The publication says the project is a probable 5,000-ft. Mississippian Mission Canyon test. 5 Rolette County, N.D., is to get a remote wildcat, to be drilled by LaMae Oil & Gas Corp., Dunseith, N.D., in Section 2-161n-72w. There are no producing wells within 33 miles of the #2 Roberts, where LaMae plans to evaluate horizons through Red River to about 5,000 ft. 6 Upper Cretaceous Fox Hills at about 13,100 ft. is the producing zone at a new-field opener completed quite awhile ago by Denver independents Basin Exploration Inc. and Tom Brown Inc. in Wyoming's Sweetwater County. IHS Energy Group reports the #34-26X Powder Mountain-Federal, Section 26-14n-96w, flowed an average of 6.775 million cu. ft. of gas per day during its first month on production. 7 Also in Sweetwater County, Kestrel Energy Inc., Denver, says that wireline logs indicate that the primary objective Cretaceous Second Frontier was penetrated at approximately 14,725 ft. and contains 56 ft. of gross sandstone development-26 ft. of which are indicated as net pay-at its Greens Canyon Prospect wildcat. The #27-3 UPRC is being drilled in Section 27-19n-106w and is now at a depth of 15,077 ft. Projected depth is 15,500 ft. 8 Forest Oil Corp., Denver, plans to drill to a depth of 14,030 ft. at a remote wildcat in Uinta County, Wyo. IHS Energy Group notes the newly staked #30-20 Pinnacle-Federal is in Section 20-17n-114w. 9 A stepout that extended Wyoming's Snowbank Field about a mile east of the discovery and the same distance north of the confirmation well was finaled for a flow gauge of 699,000 cu. ft. of gas and 15 bbl. of condensate per day. The extension, Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp.'s #10-32 Lookout Wash Unit in Section 32-15n-93w, Carbon County, flowed through a 48/64-in. choke from Upper Almond (Cretaceous Mesaverde), perforated at 10,946-54 ft. 10 Tom Brown Inc. recovered an undisclosed amount of gas during tests of Mesaverde at the #29-33 Tribal-Grayling, an indicated discovery in Section 29-2n-4e, Fremont County, Wyo. IHS Energy Group notes testing at the remote wildcat was done through perforations between 11,170-13,180 ft. The venture, which bottomed at 13,405 ft., is on the Wind River Indian Reservation about 12 miles south of Brown's Pavillion Field. 11 Also in Fremont County, Houston-based Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co., through its subsidiary LL&E, has staked the fifth ultradeep test on the Madden Deep Structure. The Rocky Mountain Oil Journal reports the #6-27 Bighorn is a stepout in Section 27-39n-90w, within the Madden Deep Unit. The publication says the Madison test has a projected depth of 25,800 ft., which, if achieved, would make it the deepest hole drilled in the entire Rocky Mountain Region. Such a depth would barely eclipse the existing record of 25,764 ft. held by a Sublette County, Wyo., test. 12 The #7-7 Trend-Federal, a new producer on the northern flank of Wyoming's Jazbo Field, has been completed by Midland independent Trend Exploration LLC for an initial pump gauge of 675 bbl. of oil and 20 bbl. of water per day. Located in Lot 7, Section 7-55n-72w, the development well is producing through perforations at 8,687-92 ft. in Pennsylvanian Minnelusa "C." 13 Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co. set production pipe on bottom at 9,635 ft. at its wildcat the #5 Fossil-Federal in Section 19-44n-16w, San Miguel County, Colo. The prospect was set up to evaluate Permian Cutler and the Honaker Trail member of Pennsylvanian Upper Hermosa, according to IHS Energy Group. It's 1.5 miles northwest of Cutler and Hermosa gas production in Andy's Mesa Field. A little more than two miles to the northwest, Burlington has made location for a 9,140-ft. Cutler/Honaker Trail test at the #6 Fossil-Federal in Section 14-44n-17w. 14 St. Croix Operating Inc., Denver, plans to drill a wildcat at the #1-1 Johnson in Section 1-7n-78w, Jackson County, Colo. The exploratory venture, five miles southeast of the opener of Johnny Moore Mountain Field, is scheduled to evaluate Cretaceous zones through Dakota to about 8,600 ft. 15 Sandoval County, N.M., is the site of a remote wildcat-the 6,100-ft. Caprock Pipe & Supply #1 L-Bar Ranch-where casing has been set. The prospect, in Section 2-13n-4w, was projected to 6,300 ft. in Precambrian and set up to evaluate Paleozoic zones, including Permian Abo at about 4,100 ft. 16 Arco Alaska Inc.'s winter drilling plans call for several exploratory tests, reports IHS Energy Group. Included are two previously proposed exploratory tests south of Tarn Field, in an area where the company drilled its wildcat the #1 Meltwater South in Section 33-7n-7e, Umiat Meridian, last winter. The proposed tests will be drilled in the southeastern corner of the Kuparuk River Unit-at Cairn (about three miles south of Tarn) and Meltwater North (about three miles south of Cairn). Arco Alaska also plans to drill one exploratory venture and one appraisal test in the Northwest Eileen area on the western flank of the Prudhoe Bay Unit. The exploratory test is the #4-01 Northwest Eileen in Section 20-12n-11e, Umiat Meridian, and the appraisal one is the #3-01 Northwest Eileen, in Section 11-11n-11e. And, the company is set to drill as many as three tests on its National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska acreage.
