1 An extended flow test of a 15-ft. perforated interval in Winters at Woodland, Calif., independent Production Specialties Co.'s #3-26 Pale Rider, an exploratory prospect in Solano County, Calif., resulted in a gauge of 5.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 70 bbl. of condensate per day, reports 1.5% working-interest-owner First Goldwater Resources Inc., Vancouver. There was no evidence of water entry at the well, which was set up as a 12,500-ft. test of Winters. The well, in Section 26-5n-1e MD, flowed briefly on a 16/64-in. choke at a rate of 8.1 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Discussions that Production Specialties has had with the California Division of Oil & Gas indicate a successful completion in Winters at this well would represent the deepest commercial production in Northern California on record. 2 Denver-based Kestrel Energy Inc. reports an affiliate company, Victoria Exploration NL, has scheduled a two-well exploration program in the San Joaquin Basin of California. Scheduled to be drilled first is the #1 Eagle, a horizontal venture in Kings County. It's a follow-up to the initial 1986 discovery that flowed 223 bbl. of oil and 700,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Gatchell Sand. Victoria will have a 25.25% working interest in the well after payout. The #1 Kingfisher is to be drilled next. Plans are to test Vedder and Domengine sands and deeper Cretaceous sand zones. Victoria will have a 32.5% working interest in the #1 Kingfisher after payout. Kestrel notes it has a 10.8% holding in Victoria. 3 Nevada's Eureka County is to see new exploration, reports the Nevada Oil Reporter. D.Y. Exploration Inc., Boise, Idaho, has made location for the #1-6 Humboldt in Section 6-28n-52e, Pine Valley. Target depth is 4,100 ft. Previous drilling in the area found several shows but no commercial success. 4 Two pays-Tertiary Wasatch and Cretaceous Mesaverde-are contributing to the production at a Uintah County, Utah, discovery that had an initial flow gauge of 1.463 million cu. ft. of gas and 480 bbl. of water per day, reports IHS Energy Group. Houston-based Coastal Oil & Gas Corp. perforated between 6,232-7,353 ft. in Wasatch and 8,475-10,420 ft. in Mesaverde, and tested using a 21/64-in. choke at the #13-1 Kennedy Wash-Federal in Section 13-8s-22e. 5 In Montana, the Armstrong Operating Inc. #1-21 BR is a discovery completed flowing 420 bbl. of oil and 330,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations at 11,622-50 ft. in Ordovician Red River "C." The Dickinson, N.D., independent's well is in Section 21-23n-54e, Richland County. Also in Richland County, a discovery was completed by Choctaw II Oil & Gas Ltd., Houston. Choctaw pumped 118 bbl. of oil and 69 bbl. of water, with 71,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day from Mississippian Rafcliffe (Madison) at the horizontally drilled #7-41H Cottonwood, Section 7-26n-59e. The producing interval is from 9,095 to 13,688 ft., measured total depth. 6 A pump gauge of 343 bbl. of oil and 57 bbl. of water, with 120,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day was recorded by Belco Energy Corp., New York City, at the #1-11H Sadowsky Trust, a one mile east-northeast extension of North Dakota's Willmen Field. IHS Energy Group reports the horizontal well is in Section 11-142n-97w, Dunn County. It's producing from two laterals in the Sherwood member of Mississippian Mission Canyon (Madison)-the Sherwood "C" zone from 9,949-13,400 ft. (a true vertical depth of 9,563 ft.) and "D" zone from 10,325-12,675 ft. (true vertical depth 9,554 ft.). 7 Berco Resources LLC, Denver, has completed two more horizontal wells in North Dakota, including the first horizontal Madison producer in Dunn County's Bear Creek Field. Madison yielded a flow of 621 bbl. of oil, 693,000 cu. ft. of gas and 50 bbl. of water per day at the #11-2H Porcupine Ridge in Section 2-147n-96w. Measured total depth is 13,423 ft. The other horizontal well is Berco's #41-17H Hoseth in Section 17-158n-95w, Williams County. Located in McGregor Field, the well produced 598 bbl. of oil, with 283,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day on pump from Devonian Winnipegosis. It was drilled to a measured total depth of 14,381 ft. 8 Pump gauge was 355 bbl. of oil and 43 bbl. of water per day from Glenburn (Mission Canyon-Madison) at the #1 A. Wilms, a 1960 vertical Mission Canyon completion horizontally redrilled by Westport Oil & Gas Co., Denver, in Wiley Field, Bottineau County, N.D. The well, in Section 23-161n-82w, is producing from an openhole lateral between 4,115-4,229 ft, (4,088-4,115 ft., true vertical depths). 9 Midland-based Trend Exploration LLC pumped 100 bbl. of oil per day at completion of the discovery #16-1 Trend-State in Section 16-55n-72w, Campbell County, Wyo., according to IHS Energy Group. The wildcat is producing from Pennsylvanian Minnelusa "C" at 8,463-79 ft. The closest Minnelusa wells are two miles northwest in Trend's Jazbo Field. 10 Wyoming's Madden area is the site of a shallower-pool opener completed by Double Eagle Petroleum Co., Casper. The #1-26 Lloyd is in Section 26-39n-90w, Fremont County. It tapped the Shotgun Sand member of Tertiary Upper Fort Union for an initial flow rate of 1.227 million cu. ft. of gas and four bbl. of water per day on a 15/64-in. choke. There are two productive intervals-at 3,407-26 ft. and 3,445-64 ft. Double Eagle owns a 36.04% working interest in the well located on the northern flank of the Madden structure. 11 In Section 23-30n-108w, Sublette County, Wyo., Ultra Resources Inc. finaled its #15-23 Warbonnet flowing 5.642 million cu. ft. of gas and 29 bbl. of condensate per day to confirm its discovery of Warbonnet Field, the #9-23 Warbonnet. The confirmation is producing from 11 fracture-stimulated stages in the overpressured Upper Cretaceous Lance between 9,135-12,667 ft. It offsets to the southwest the field discovery that was completed in 1998 flowing 844,000 cu. ft. of gas, 15 bbl. of condensate and 25 bbl. of water per day from two fracture-treated Lance/Mesaverde intervals between 11,596-12,380 ft. 12 Primero Operating Inc., Roswell, is drilling below 1,830 ft. at the #1 Dulce Draw State, a remote wildcat in nonproducing Socorro County, N.M. Target depth is 7,000 ft. at the venture, in Section 2-4s-9e, says IHS Energy Group. The nearest previous drilling is three miles west-southwest at a test that was abandoned at a total depth of 6,190 ft. in Precambrian. The drillsite is more than 60 miles north of the closest production, in northwestern Otero County. 13 Phillips Alaska Inc. has completed an extended-reach well, drilled from the Colville River Unit's Alpine Field pad on the North Slope, as a discovery in the Nanuq Satellite Pool. IHS Energy Group notes the #CD1-NQ1 Colville River Unit was directionally drilled from a surface location in Section 5-11n-5e, Umiat Meridian, about 2.25 miles southward to a proposed bottomhole location in Section 17-11n-5e. Measured total depth is 16,118 ft. According to the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission, the discovery produced 6,404 bbl. of oil and 97.646 million cu. ft. of gas during February and 7,036 bbl. of oil and 105.742 million cu. ft. of gas in March. Phillips describes the well as a test, not a permanent development. The company is active at several other exploratory tests on the North Slope. 14 Unocal Alaska Resources has the permitting process under way for two exploration prospects on private land on the Kenai Peninsula. One of them, the Albright Prospect, involves two tests-the #1 Albright and #1 Pearl, located in Section 24-1s-14w, Seward Meridian (SM). The second prospect is the Ninilchik Native Association, which also calls for two tests-the #1 NNA, Section 11-2s-13w, SM, and #2 NNA, Section 14-2s-13w, SM.
