1 ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc., Houston, plugged and abandoned a North Slope wildcat drilled 26 miles west of Deadhorse, Alaska, according to IHS Energy. The #1 Antigua, Section 35-10n-10e, was drilled to 6,850 ft. to evaluate Kuparuk oil zones off the southeastern flank of the Kuparuk River Unit. The nearest well is #1J-14 Silvertip, in Section 7-10n-11e. The well was drilled to 13,603 ft. with a true vertical depth of 6,776 ft. Operations were suspended and the well was eventually plugged.



2 Pioneer Natural Resources Co., Irving, Texas, has acquired the Cosmopolitan Unit in Cook Inlet, Alaska. Under and agreement with ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc., Pioneer will increase its ownership to 50% and take over as operator The 25,000-acre offshore unit is 120 miles southwest of Anchorage and two miles from the shoreline of the Kenai Peninsula. Prior to acquiring the unit, three wells and a sidetrack were drilled. ConocoPhillips drilled #1 Hansen in Section 2-4s-15w, west-northwestward to a proposed offshore bottom-hole location in Section 32-3s-15w. ConocoPhillips reentered the well in 2003 and drilled #1A Hansen, a directional sidetrack hole. The Cosmopolitan Unit also contains undeveloped Starichkof Field where two offshore wells were drilled. Further details of these wells have not been disclosed.



3 Prime Natural Resources Inc., Bakersfield, Calif., will drill a wildcat in search of oil in Kern County, Calif. The #1-8 Coldwater Farms, Section 8-27s-20e, will be 8.3 miles west of Lost Hills, Calif., and 0.6 miles north of Belridge North Field. That field produces from Reef Ridge Shale. The depth of the wildcat is unknown.



4 Tonopah, Nev.-based Makoil Inc. will drill a 2,400-ft. well to look for oil and gas in Nevada. The #21-21R Dry Lake, Section 21-8n-56e, is 65.1 miles southwest of Ely, Nev., and 4.2 miles south of Trap Spring Field, a Prichard Station producer.



5 PetroSun Drilling Inc., Phoenix, has acquired a 25% interest in Pinta Dome Field in Apache County, Ariz. A 2,800-ft. test well will be drilled by Bengal Drilling Inc., a subsidiary of PetroSun. The well will evaluate zones below the Permian Supai, which produced helium at Pinta Dome.



6 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, will drill a 12,900-ft. Uinta Basin wildcat 20 miles south-southeast of Duchesne, Utah. The #1-01 Badlands, Section 1-11s-14e, Duchesne County, Utah, will be three to four miles northwest of a two-well gas field productive from Wasatch, Mesaverde and Blackhawk reservoirs.



7 Wolverine Gas & Oil Co., Grand Rapids, Mich., will drill a Hingeline wildcat. The #21-2 Wolverine-Federal-Twist Canyon, Section 16-21s-1e, Sevier County, Utah, will target Navajo in the Twist Canyon area of south-central Utah two to three miles northeast of Salina. The wildcat will be drilled 10,900 ft. Within a mile west-southwest, Wolverine drilled a wildcat that targeted Navajo. The #21-1 Wolverine-Federal-Twist Canyon, in Section 17-21s-1e, was drilled to a measured depth of 11,670 ft. (true vertical depth 9,400 ft.).



8 Armstrong Operating Inc., Dickinson, N.D., completed a Nisku oil discovery in northeastern Montana about nine miles north of Bainville. The #2-13 Peterson, Section 13-29n-57e, Roosevelt County, produced 3,601 bbl. of oil, 1.77 million cu. ft. of gas and 64 bbl. of water in 31 days. The nearest producer is #1-13 John Peterson, Section 13-29n-57e. The well produced from Red River from 12,530-54 ft. between May 1981 and May 1983.



9 Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co LP, Houston, a business of ConocoPhillips, completed a wildcat in northeastern Montana. The #44-3H 52 BR, Section 3-25n-52e, Richland County, Mont., pumped 140 bbl. of oil with 70,000 cu. ft. of gas and 15 bbl. of water per day. The wildcat produces from two open-hole horizontal Bakken laterals, according to IHS Energy. Lateral #1 is from 9,282 to 13,901 ft. and extends south-southwestward to a bottom-hole location in Section 10-25n-52e. True vertical total depth is 8,984 ft. Lateral #2 is 9,362 to 13,301 ft. and was drilled north-northwestward to a bottom-hole location in Section 3. True vertical total depth is 8,878 ft. The well is two miles north of #44-15H 52 BR, Section 15-25n-52e, that produced 567 bbl. of oil with 218,000 cu. ft. of gas and 43 bbl. of water per day from two fracture-stimulated, open-hole horizontal Bakken laterals.



10 A discovery rewarded Hess Corp., New York, in western North Dakota. The #1-11H J. Horst, Section 11-154n-93w, Mountrail County, N.D., produced 70 bbl. of oil, 86,000 cu. ft. of gas and 99 bbl. of water per day from an open-hole horizontal lateral in Bakken extending from 10,869 to 16,261 ft. The well is five miles north-northwest of #36-44 H4 AHEL Sanish et al., a horizontal Bakken producer in Section 36-154n-93w.



11 Bill Barrett Corp., Denver, drilled a wildcat in northern McKenzie County, N.D. The #44-30H Schmitz, Section 30-152n-100w, 10 miles northeast of Alexander, N.D., pumped 188 bbl. of 42-degree-gravity oil with 113,000 cu. ft. of gas and 157 bbl. of water per day. The well is producing from an open-hole horizontal Ratcliffe lateral extending from 9,703 to 14,704 ft. The #44-30H Schmitz is two miles north of Sakakawea Field and 2.5 miles northeast of #2-1 Forthun discovery in Section 1-151n-101w. The well was completed two years ago pumping 725 bbl. of oil with 620,000 cu. ft. of gas and 63 bbl. of water per day from an open-hole horizontal Nesson interval extending from 9,415 to 13,232 ft.



12 Spyglass Cedar Creek LP, San Antonio, staked a wildcat in South Dakota. The #4-16 State will be drilled in Section 16-19n-4e, Harding County, S.D. The wildcat will evaluate the oil potential of Minnelusa to 6,200 ft. in a nonproducing township six miles south-southwest of Buffalo Field. There is no production from Minnelusa in the area; the closest Minnelusa production is from #1 Harry Blair, Section 8-19n-4e, which is 70 miles southwest, on the northeastern flank of the Powder River Basin in Rocky Point Field, Wyo., according to IHS Energy.



13 Gasco Production Co., Englewood, Colo., plans to drill #24-21-32-111 in Section 21-32n-111w in Sublette County, southwestern Wyoming. The 16,500-ft. wildcat will be on the southwestern flank of the Hoback Basin about 13 miles southwest of Pinedale. The nearest production is 1.5 miles northwest of a Lance/Mesaverde well. The #32-33 Cottonwood-Federal in Section 33-32n-111w produced 600,000 cu. ft. of gas daily on completion in three intervals: Lance from 9,524 to 10,391 ft. and Mesaverde from 10,562 to 10,645 ft. and 10,810 to 11,050 ft. on a 16/64-in. choke.



14 Houston-based Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co LP, a business of ConocoPhillips, completed a wildcat 13 miles northeast of Wamsutter, Wyo. The #44-6 Creston Junction, Section 6-20n-91w, Sweetwater County, Wyo., tested at a daily rate of 999,000 cu. ft. in the Almond member of Mesaverde. The wildcat produces from a fracture-stimulated Almond interval perforated from 11,209 to 11,343 ft. on a 30/64-in. choke with a tubing pressure of 650 psi. The closest well is #1 Buck Draw Unit in Section 29-21n-91w, some 2.25 miles southeast of the Windy Hill Field. The 13,597-ft. well was completed in Almond from 11,815-28 ft. and produced 24.3 million cu. ft. of gas.



15 Mica Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, will drill a 4,300-ft. exploratory test well, #3-22 Gardner, in Section 22-2n-36w in Dundy County, Neb. The well will test Lansing-Kansas City on the Cambridge Arch in southwestern Nebraska. The closest well is #1-22 Gardner in the same section a mile north-northwest of Butler Field. That well pumped 23 bbl. of oil and one bbl. of water daily from Lansing from 4,054 to 4,102 ft. According to IHS Energy, the 4,180-ft. discovery produced 2,757 bbl. of oil and 3,074 bbl. of water.



16 Peacock Exploration LLC, San Antonio, staked #6-4-47-19 Bedrock Unit in Section 4-47n-19w, Montrose County, Colo. The 15,500-ft. wildcat will be 24 miles northwest of Naturita. The objectives of the wildcat include Pennsylvanian, Mississippian and McCracken zones. The site is 16 miles northeast of production from Pennsylvanian and Mississippian strata in San Juan County, Utah. The closest completed well is #16-7-47-18 Bedrock Unit in Section7-47n-18w, where production tests of Lower Paradox perforated from 6,631 to 8,268 ft. proved unsuccessful.
