The closest production is in the Pinta Dome-Navajo Springs field area about 30 miles north-northeast. That complex produces nitrogen and helium from Shinarump and Coconino at depths shallower than 1,500 ft. The closest oil and gas production is about 160 miles north, according to IHS Inc.
Petro-Canada Resources (USA) Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Petro-Canada, Calgary, plans extensive exploration about 12 miles northeast of Sunnyside in Carbon County, Utah, in the southern Uinta Basin to depths from 11,000 to 13,500 ft. The eight wildcats include #3-11, #23-13, #23-31, #23-33 and #23-41 Cottonwood-Federal wells, all in Section 23-13s-15e; #24-31 and #24-43 Cottonwood-Federal wells, both in Section 24 of the same township; and #27-14 Cottonwood Federal in Section 27. The drilling area is six to eight miles southwest of recent discoveries in the West Tavaputs area where Bill Barrett Corp.'s #4-12D-13-16 Peter's Point Unit-Federal tested 10.1 million cu. ft. equivalent a day with 12 bbl. of water from Jurassic Navajo.
RBDR LLC, West Jordan, Utah, permitted a wildcat on the Utah Hingeline in southwestern Sevier County. It will drill #1 Crazy "R" Ranch to 8,600 ft. in Section 12-25s-4w, about 18 miles southwest of Covenant, the Jurassic Navajo field that started the Hingeline play. Wells have been staked as close as 2.5 miles south of the RDBDR wildcat, but the closest drilling effort is about 12 miles northeast.
Approval of a permit application would authorize Kodiak Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., Denver, to drill an 11,250-ft. wildcat to Mission Canyon (Madison) and Red River in eastern Sheridan County about 11 miles east-southeast of the town of Plentywood in northeastern Montana, reports IHS Inc. The closest production to its #2-13 Larsh, in Section 13-34n-56e, is the discovery well for Wrangler North Field about 0.75-mile west-southwest. That 1979 well flowed 284 bbl. of oil, 306,000 cu. ft. of gas and five bbl. of water a day from Red River perforations between 11,050-74 ft.
Dallas-based Petro-Hunt LLC wants a permit to drill a tri-lateral horizontal Bakken wildcat about 11 miles north-northeast of Richey in Richland County, Mont. The company would drill the well from a surface location in Section 34-24n-52e to bottomhole locations southwest, west and south in the same section. Measured depths on the laterals will be 15,000 ft. The closest production is about three miles southwest, also a tri-lateral Bakken well.
Whiting Oil & Gas Corp., Denver, completed a dual-lateral wildcat as a discovery on the Billings Nose in northeastern Golden Valley County, N.D. The well is about 22 miles north-northeast of the town of Sentinel Butte, N.D., in Section 12-143n-103 w. The #14-12H Federal produces at an undisclosed rate from Birdbear. Lateral 1, from 12,070 to 17,620 ft., reaches northeast in the same section, and the second lateral extends southwest to a bottomhole location in Section 14. The company has asked for spacing and field limits for the well.
Nadel & Gussman Rockies LLC, Tulsa, Okla., will test a nonproducing township in southwestern North Dakota with #16-32 Raider-Fee in Section 32-131n-103w, about eight miles southeast of Rhame in central Bowman County. The wells are in Section 36-14n-100w, about 42 miles southeast of Rock Springs in southern Sweetwater County, Wyo., and aimed at the Baxter shale and Frontier and Dakota sands. The #2-36 North Trail-State is projected to 15,030 ft., #4-36A North Trail-State to 14,830 ft. and #12-36 North Trail-State to 14,540 ft. At press time, the company was drilling the $5-million #4-36 North Trail-State in the same section.
Kimball, Neb.-based Antelope Energy Co. LLC tested for 100 bbl. of oil with 10,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from a discovery about seven miles north-northwest of Sidney in Cheyenne County, Neb. The #1-27 Federal, in Section 27-15n-50w, produced from untreated J sand from 4,892-94 ft. It has been designated as the opener for Ammo Field on the Sioux Ordnance Depot land, and it's an easterly offset to another Antelope well that was shut in after producing 21 bbl. of water with only shows of oil.
Petroleum Development Corp., Bridgeport, W.Va., has asked for permits for two wildcats between 12 and 15 miles east-southeast of Keenesburg in Weld County in northeastern Colorado. The Denver-Julesburg Basin tests are #11-31 Cooksey Farms in Section 31-1n-61w, scheduled to 7,000 ft., and the 7,400-ft. #23-27 Stanger in 27-1n-62w.
