Describe a memorable professional experience—something that may not be typical for industry members or that is especially meaningful for you.
One of my most memorable professional experiences was starting a commodity trading company in the Democratic Republic of Congo, focusing on cobalt and copper. The challenges were significant, from navigating complex negotiations with local stakeholders to overcoming logistical hurdles in a developing market. Early on, I built strong relationships with local industry experts, which became the cornerstone of our success.
One vivid memory is the day we secured our first deal after months of discussions, overcoming numerous infrastructure and regulatory obstacles. Trying to start my own business taught me invaluable lessons about team chemistry, raising capital and risk assessment. The experience was particularly meaningful because it highlighted the importance of trust, collaboration and strategic thinking to achieve success in such a challenging environment.
What are your long- and short-term career goals?
My career goals are deeply intertwined with my passion for the oil and gas industry. I firmly believe that safely providing affordable, reliable energy is not just a commodity, but a catalyst for positive change in society that is increasingly in need of more energy. With this mindset, I’m focusing my efforts on helping bpx safely grow our business profitably and responsibly and driving value from decreasing our environmental impact.
In the long term, I aspire to play a pivotal role in the energy transition. I am committed to leading initiatives that drive innovation and performance, positioning our company at the forefront of the sector.
What professional and/or personal advice would you give other young professionals in the industry?
Two key pieces of advice for young professionals: First, don’t be quick to jump to conclusions. Take the time to appreciate diverse perspectives on an issue – you’re likely to learn more than you have to offer. Second, networking is key. Engage with others to learn, develop and grow as a professional.
How have you exercised leadership to help shape your company?
I prioritize driving performance efficiency by focusing on leading indicators. I assess existing processes to identify opportunities for improvement, introducing new tactics, tools and guidance to enhance operational effectiveness. By fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement among the business, I’m helping the company respond to an ever-evolving commercial landscape to achieve unlock efficiency and deliver sustainable growth. I’m confident this proactive approach is helping our team deliver.
