Morriss Hurt
Hurt and his colleagues work with the management teams backed by EnCap Flatrock Midstream’s private-equity funds. “We constantly work together,” he said. “We come to work every day thinking about how we can help our portfolio companies succeed.” He sits on six portfolio company boards.
On leadership: Hurt asks himself:
- What is the example I am setting?”;
- “Am I respecting every individual I interact with?”;
- “How am I reacting to both good and bad news?”;
- “Am I competitive or collaborative?”; and
- “How do I solve problems and address conflicts?”
“The answers to these questions will be different for each person, but that’s how one leads. … Everyone leads by example, even if unconsciously.”
Career path: From 2001 to 2003, he was an investment banking analyst at Salomon Smith Barney; next, he was a principal at The Encino Group from January 2005 to October 2008. From October 2008 onward, he has held positions of increasing responsibility at EnCap Flatrock Midstream, where he has served as managing director since 2014.
Open range: “I grew up on a cattle ranch in South Texas and hard work was a way of life. There’s no better motivator to apply yourself than long summer days laboring outside in the heat! Virtually everything of value requires hard work, and this has served me well in both my personal and professional life.”
