BG Norge AS, operator of production license 373 S, is completing drilling of exploration well 34/3-5, about 5 km southeast of the Knarr Field, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said April 17. The well is dry and will be plugged and abandoned, the directorate added.
The well is about 120 km west of Florø in the northern North Sea.
The well was drilled to prove petroleum in Early Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Cook Formation. It hit a gross Cook interval of about 82 m, of which 47 m were good reservoir quality with residual hydrocarbon traces.
Data acquisition and sampling were carried out.
Well 34/3-4 was the seventh appraisal well in license 373 S, which was awarded in APA 2005.
The well was drilled to 4,253 m total vertical depth and terminated in the Lower Jurassic Amundsen Formation In 403 m of water. The Transocean Searcher semisubmersible rig. The rig will be left in Kristiansund for about 2 months before it drills Well 2/11-11 in production license 616 where Edison Norge AS is the operator.
