Buru Energy said its Praslin 1 well in Western Australia’s Ungani oil field has hit oil.
Wireline logs indicate a gross oil-bearing interval of about 23 meters at the top of the Ungani Dolomite section in the well, the company said. It added that the log response of the interval is similar to that seen over the interpreted highly productive zone at the Ungani oil field, but reservoir characteristics need to be confirmed by a production testing program.
“This is an excellent result. It indicates that the Ungani petroleum system extends for many kilometers along the structural terrace to the west of Ungani,” said Eric Streitberg, the company’s executive chairman. “It also gives us additional confidence that the trend extends to the east to the Victory and Senagi prospects that we will be drilling in this year’s program. There are many other similar prospects along these terraces, a number of which we have defined by 3-D seismic.”
The company said it will plug the well and bring in a testing crew to run production testing.
Buru Energy and Mitsubishi Corp. each have a 50% interest in the well.
