Egdon Resources has published figures that indicate its shale gas reserves could be around 510 Bcm (18 Tcf) in acreage in the north of England, about 10 times more than previous estimates.
Egdon quotes the figures from a new report by reservoir consultants ERC Equipoise, which reviewed the company's undiscovered gas reserves. Equipoise surveyed Egdon's licenses where potential for shale gas exists in its Bowland-Hodder sequence, an area that was identified by the British Geological Survey's Carboniferous Bowland Shale study published last year.
Mean in place gas reserves have been put at 510 Bcm with a range of 227 Bcm to 878 Bcm (8 Tcf to 31 Tcf) and a mid-case figure of 425 Bcm (15 Tcf) has been quoted for Egdon's seven licenses in the north of England.
