Eni SA (NYSE: E) said March 16 that the Merakes-1 gas find offshore Indonesia contains more Tcf of gas than previously thought. Also, the company discovered “significant” gas and condensates offshore Libya.
The Merakes-1 gas find in the deepwater East Sepinggan Block is now thought to contain up 2 Tcf of gas in place, up from an estimated 1.3 Tcf. The well, which was drilled in October in 1,372 m of water, is in an area of high-quality sandstone.
Eni operates the East Sepinggan Block with an 85% interest. The East Sepinggan Block is offshore Borneo, 170 km south of the Bontang LNG plant and 35 km south of Jangkrik Field.
On average in Indonesia, Eni produces 17 Mboe/d.
Also, the company said the B1-16/4 well discovered gas and condensates in the Bahr Essalam South prospect offshore Libya. Area D is 22 km from Bahr Essalam Field, and 82 km from the coast. Eni North Africa BV fully operates Area D.
B1-16/4 was drilled at 150 m water depth, and hit gas and condensates in the Metlaoui Formation. During the production test, 29 MM scf/d. More than 600 bbl/d condensate was also produced. The well could produce more than 50 MMscf/d 1 Mbbl/d of condensate.
Eni currently has three rigs working offshore Libya in Area D, and the company currently produces about 350 Mboe/d in the country.
