Energy Hunter Resources Inc. appointed Victor G. Carrillo to the board of directors, effective immediately, the company said Oct. 14. Carrillo is the third independent director appointed to the board, the company said.

Currently, Carrillo is the CEO of Zion Oil & Gas Inc., which explores oil and gas onshore Israel. He has been a director at Zion since September 2010 and was president and COO from October 2011 through June 2015.

Gary C. Evans, chairman and CEO, said that Carrillo previously served on the Texas Railroad Commission. Carrillo is the former chairman of the West Texas Energy Consortium and has served on numerous other committees, commissions and boards, Evans said.

From 2003 through 2010, Carrillo was a statewide-elected commissioner on the Texas Railroad Commission, overseeing the Texas oil and gas sector. During this time he was chairman of the governor's Texas Energy Planning Council, chairman of the Outer Continental Shelf Advisory Committee to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, and vice chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.

From 2011 through early 2016, Carrillo was a director at Magnum Hunter Resources Inc.

Currently, Carrillo is on the advisory board of the Maguire Energy Institute at Southern Methodist University and on the board of directors of the Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce.

Carrillo earned a bachelor’s degree from Hardin-Simmons University, a master’s degree from Baylor University and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. He received an honorary doctorate from Hardin-Simmons University.
