ITT recognized as “green” services provider
ITT Corp. has announced that its Airborne Natural Gas Emission Lidar (ANGEL) Services was selected as an upstream green company by the American Gas Association (AGA) for its natural gas leak detection and quantification capabilities. The AGA recognizes businesses for their dedication and commitment to reducing carbon-footprint upstream of the gas meter. The selection was announced on May 19th at the AGA operations conference & biennial exhibition in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“By providing greenhouse gas emissions detection and quantification services, ITT ANGEL Services is able to enhance public safety, help our customers save money while complying with reporting requirements, and promote environmental stewardship,” said Daniel Brake, director, ITT ANGEL Services. “Our environmentally-oriented services and capabilities help keep billions of cubic feet of otherwise fugitive greenhouse gas emissions under customers’ control rather than simply ending up in the atmosphere.”
ITT’s ANGEL Services utilizes differential absorption lidar (DIAL) laser technology to effectively and efficiently pinpoint natural gas pipeline leaks and emissions that current industry and regulatory best practices are missing. These leaks and emissions have a major impact on the environment; methane is a greenhouse gas (GHG) with over 20 times the atmospheric impact of carbon dioxide (CO2), the standard for GHG impact measures.
BJ Services completes offshore India job
BJ Services Co. has announced that it has completed a major contract to provide precommissioning services for Technip on the MA-D6 oilfield development offshore India. The oilfield is located in the Krishna Godavari Basin in the Bay of Bengal South East offshore Kakinada.
BJ Services was awarded a contract by Technip in January 2008 to supply a range of precommissioning services. The scope of the project required the company to plan and manage several different phases, including initial engineering and project management services designed to complete the work within a tight timeframe.
Hydraulic and electrical testing of both dynamic and infield umbilicals was carried out during pre-installation, installation, overboarding and post-installation phases of the operation. BJ’s pipeline precommissioning specialists carried out cleaning, flooding and pressure testing of the 8-in. production infield flowlines. In addition, the 6-in. gas injection riser was cleaned, flooded, pressure-tested and treated with mono ethylene glycol. The fast-track operation was carried out efficiently and completed on schedule.
SARPOM, Jayhawk deploy GE MFL inspection technology
GE Oil & Gas’ PII Pipeline Solutions business has presented recognition awards to two of its valued customers following their pioneering use of MagneScan, the next generation of MFL (magnetic flux leakage) pipeline inspection technology, now proven on both sides of the Atlantic.
SARPOM, Exxon Mobil’s Affiliate Refinery and Pipelines Company in Italy, and Jayhawk Pipeline, the U.S. pipeline operator, were recognized for projects successfully completed in the first quarter of 2009. Representatives of SARPOM received the GE award in Cramlington, U.K., GE’s Centre
of Excellence for Magnetics, while Jayhawk was presented with the award at GE’s Biannual North American Pipeline Conference in Austin, Texas.
The SARPOM inspection in Italy was from Trecate to Malpensa Intercontinental Airport (Northwest region) on a
6-in. diameter jet-fuel pipeline, spanning almost 20.5 miles.
The line was last inspected in 2003. The scope of work implemented by GE was to detect corrosion, dents and bends, as well as mapping coordinates acquisition. The inspection was successfully completed in just four hours and 45 minutes, with the expert field support of TECMA Pipeline Services, GE’s partner in Italy. Sarpom operates a network of 720 miles of liquid pipelines in Italy.
