Jones Energy Inc. (NYSE: JONE) hired Carl F. Giesler Jr. as its CEO, the Midcontinent-focused E&P said July 20.
Giesler joins Jones Energy from Glacier Oil & Gas Corp., a privately-held company focused on Alaska where he served as CEO and a director since September 2014. He previously served as managing director with Harbinger Group Inc. and has held various oil and gas principal investing, financial and other roles with other firms.
In addition, Giesler has also served on the boards of privately-held Compass Production Partners LP and North American Energy Partners Inc.
Alan Bell, lead independent director of Jones’ board, said in a statement, “[Giesler] has a track record of success and we are confident his leadership will create value for our shareholders. I am excited to welcome him to the team.”
Giesler will take the reigns at Austin, Texas-based Jones Energy effective July 23 from COO Jeff Tanner, who has been filling in as Jones’ interim CEO since the departure of Jonny Jones.
Previously, Jonny Jones served as CEO of Jones Energy from the time he founded the company in 1988 until April when he and President Mike S. McConnell were terminated, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Following the departure, Jones retained his role as board chairman. McConnell also continued to serve as a board member but will now be stepping down from that position as well effective July 23, the release said.
“On behalf of the board, we owe a debt of gratitude to Mike McConnell for his many years of service and leadership,” Jonny Jones said in a statement. “Mike has served this company as president since 2004 and served as a company director since the founding of our board in 2009. I wish Mike the very best in his future endeavors.”
Replacing McConnell in representing the Jones family on the board will be Stephen Jones, co-chairman of EnerVest Ltd., according to the company press release.
