The Pipeline Simulation Interest Group (PSIG), Houston, a well-known and respected technical organization in the pipeline and gas industry, is proud to announce that its 42nd Annual Meeting will be held in the majestic wine country of Napa, Calif., from the 24th- 27th of May, 2011. Since 1969, PSIG has hosted an annual conference to provide a forum where members from major oil and gas companies, specialized consultants, and academia, highlight and exchange the latest information on pipeline simulation technology.

According to Mahmood Al-Rasheed, a Pipeline Simulation Specialist with the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, “Every time I attend PSIG, I take back with me new ideas on operations and simulation technology that I can utilize here at Aramco. In addition, keeping in touch with the operators, engineers and academia that I meet at PSIG provides me with a wealth of technical resources that I can call upon when needed.”

The conference will kick-off with registration and conference check-in on the 24th of May, followed by an ice-breaker reception the same evening where members can catch up with old friends and meet new ones. This year’s conference will include two tracks, one on Distributions Systems and Equipment Modeling and the other on Liquid Systems and Leak Detection. Over the next two and a half days, speakers will present papers covering topics such as economics of internal pipe coating, comprehensive leak and spill quantification toolset, and building distribution models from GIS or CAD data. This year’s agenda will again include speakers from all regions of the world such as Saudi Arabian Oil Company, Statoil, DBP Western Australia, Gaz De France, and Pacific Gas & Electric, a California based company, just to name a few. A complete agenda and online registration may be found at www.psig.org.

What is most remarkable about PSIG, aside from the tremendous support it gets from the pipeline technical community, is that all efforts are voluntary. PSIG is run by members of the Board of Directors who coordinate the entire conference, from creating the agenda and lining up speakers, to selecting the conference location, hotels and entertainment.
