National Oilwell Varco Inc. named David Reid to succeed Chief Technology Officer Hege Kverneland, the Houston-based oilfield service company said in an April 9 release.

Kverneland, who will retire effective April 17 after over two decades at NOV, leaves with her a “legacy of innovation,” remarked Clay Williams, the company’s chairman, president and CEO.
With over 20 years of engineering and product management experience, contributing to quality assurance, research and product development, Kverneland began her career with FluScan in 1991. FluScan was later acquired by Hitec in 1994, which NOV acquired in 1999.
In 2001, Kverneland became corporate R&D manager at NOV, a position she held until 2009 when she was named as corporate vice president and chief technology officer.
Throughout her career, Kverneland also contributed many new product developments such as a new mud pump design, different PM-motor designs, and heave compensation systems. She has authored numerous SPE/IADC papers within drilling as well as two textbooks on Offshore Hydraulics.

“I am grateful for the enormous impact Hege [Kverneland] has made on NOV and on the industry we serve,” Williams added in his statement. “She has been a prominent industry spokesperson, consistently advocating for better, safer, more efficient ways of executing the critical mission of developing energy.”
Kverneland’s successor, Reid, currently serves as NOV’s chief marketing officer, a position he will retain, according to the company release.
Reid joined NOV in 1992 and has lived in Scotland, Calif., and Houston while working worldwide in roles covering business development, product development, leadership and management.
Additionally, Reid serves on the NOV and Schlumberger IntelliServ joint venture board, as well as the IADC executive board as the vice president for services. He is also a founding member of the SPE drilling systems automation technical section and is currently serving on the SPE board as a technical director of drilling.
