Bill Barrett Corp., Denver, (NYSE: BBG) reports that board member Philippe S.E. Schreiber died on Feb. 14, at age 68. He had been a director since February 2002.
Charlie Berard, Verenex Energy Inc., Calgary, (Toronto: VNX) corporate secretary, has died.
“He provided insightful guidance and practical legal advice through a period of rapid operational growth in Libya, four financings and a major strategic review that culminated in the recent acquisition agreement with CNPC International Ltd.,” says Verenex president and chief executive Jim McFarland. “He would have been proud of this latest accomplishment.”
IPAA staff member William V. (Bill) Moyer died March 2 after a 20-month-plus battle with cancer. He was 52. Since 2001, Moyer served at IPAA headquarters in Washington as vice president of capital markets, business development and membership.
Prior to joining IPAA, Moyer was a consultant to KPMG Financial Services Consulting Group and MoneyZone.com. Before that, he held leadership positions at Den Norske Bank’s Houston office, Bank One Texas’ Houston energy group, Texas Commerce Bank and Kidder, Peabody & Co. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his MBA from the University of Houston.
Following a vigorous and productive life that included drilling more than 3,000 wells, independent oilman L. Franklin (Frank) Pitts has at 98.
Recognized by his peers and major trade organizations in the oil and gas industry for his leadership over 68 years, Pitts began his career in Chicago with Nu-Enamel Paint Co. He lived in Europe from 1934-37 where he opened paint stores. His observation of the rise of fascism in Italy and Germany engendered an intense lifelong patriotism. Involved in politics from an early age, he was chairman of Young Democrats for Roosevelt in 1932.
Pitts founded Pitts Oil Co. and was an independent oil and gas producer for almost seven decades. For 12 years, he was chief executive officer of an international geophysical company. He served two terms as president of Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO).
