Brian A. Toal, former senior financial editor for Oil and Gas Investor, passed away Feb. 1 in Denver after a brief illness. He was 69.
Brian retired in January 2008 after more than 22 years with the magazine, although he continued to contribute his column, “On the Money,” through the September 2008 issue.
Brian joined the magazine in 1985 when it was based in Denver. By that time, he already had an accomplished journalism career as an award-winning U.S. Army correspondent in Korea, on the ABC-TV Network News team in New York, and in media relations with Shell Oil Co. in New York, New Orleans and Denver. He was a graduate of Fordham University in his beloved New York City.
When he joined Hart Energy Publishing, the magazine was four years old. His greatest contribution was to develop strong relationships with analysts and financiers on Wall Street and in Houston, Calgary and Toronto, bringing a new sophistication to the content.
