According to a report by The Warsaw Voice, Poland may initiate commercial production of shale gas as early as 2014.
Speaking from Lubocino on September 18, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted that the country's unconventional reserves could help the country achieve gas independence by 2035. Currently, Poland heavily relies on Russia for its natural gas resources.
"With moderate optimism, we think that in 2014 there will be commercial extraction, so really just around the corner," said Tusk.
Numerous companies, including BNK Petroleum, ExxonMobil, FX Energy and Mitsui & Co., have already picked up exploration licenses in Poland.
