Irish and East European explorer San Leon Energy has declared successful results from a triple fracking program on a well drilled in Poland.
In a stock exchange statement San Leon said the Rogity 1 well drilled in the Braniewo S Concession area in the northern Baltic basin in Poland, which is operated by Talisman Energy, has been fracked across one sandstone and two shale intervals and produced oil.
Drilled to improve understanding of the fracturing ability and commercial oil potential of a middle Cambrian sandstone, an Ordovician shale and carbonate, as well as a Lower Silurian shale, San Leon said three fracking operations took place in Rogity 1 well. One was on the Cambrian sandstone, and oil and formation water were recovered, suggesting this interval is near an oil water contact, the company indicated. A second frac was carried out on the Ordovician shale, and frac three was in a Lower Silurian shale.
After cleaning up the well, San Leon reported that oil was recovered to the surface and geochemical analysis indicates that different oil was produced from the Cambrian sandstone and the shales, and the oil has gravity of 39° API with no sulphur.
Drilling was carried out by Wisent Oil and Gas as part of a farm-out agreement with San Leon under which Wisent is to earn 45% in the concession after designing, performing, and funding drilling at Rogity 1 including the testing each zone.
Forward plans are to evaluate the concession area for unconventional oil production from the Lower Silurian interval in the Braniewo S concession, although it has only tested one 20 m (65.6 ft) interval. Also any future appraisal of Cambrian oil will also be designed to test the lower Silurian and Ordovician, San Leon said.
