Scott Gromer

President and Chief Executive, Mesa Natural Gas Solutions LLC, U.S. Army

Scott Gromer learned a lot while leading soldiers through more than two decades of military service. Today, those skills—which include discipline, perseverance and leadership—are propelling his company’s success. Under his guidance, Mesa Natural Gas Solutions LLC has become the largest provider of gas, prime power electrical generator sets in North American oil and gas fields.

“His ability to project his vision and direction for the company is seen in its explosive growth and potential for massive versatility,” said colleague and Mesa marketing manager Max Renton. “In the organization, he has an effect on all employees by making them feel important and taken care of, regardless of the position they hold. By utilizing the leadership skills he acquired throughout his military career, he has steered the company in the right direction to the benefit of its employees.”

As Mesa’s president and CEO, Gromer oversees more than 200 employees, and is said to make each one feel like part of the family. Before joining the company in 2014, he spent 23 years in the South Dakota and Wyoming Army National Guard. He retired as a major in 2014.

While in the military, Gromer held numerous leadership positions, including two unit commands. He was deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and served as the S-3 operations officer of a high mobility rocket system field artillery battalion.

Throughout his career, he accumulated numerous awards, including the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and multiple Army Commendation Medals. Other decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. Gromer also received the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, which is awarded to artillerymen who served a military detachment with selflessness while promoting the branch.

He has a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University and a master of business administration degree from Colorado State University.

Since joining Mesa, Gromer has overseen the hiring of more than 70 veterans, including two who are currently deployed.

“Scott is always eager to help out any veteran organizations in our area of operations, whether it is with donations of time or money,” Renton said. “Scott truly pays it forward in the veteran community by ensuring that jobs are available to veterans and their families, by offering resources to local and national veteran organizations, and by supporting those colleagues that are currently in the military or are transitioning out.”

Gromer is regarded highly among his colleagues. Despite his busy schedule, he always makes time to offer employees advice, or praise them for on-the-job performances.

“Scott makes an effort to impact everyone’s lives he comes into contact with,” Renton said.
“Scott has created high paying career opportunities across the United States for hundreds of
people, many of which are veterans.”

Gromer says he’s driven to help others—particularly fellow veterans—by a desire to give back to former military members and their families.

“Every employee in our company upholds a culture of recruiting, hiring and retaining military veterans and families,” he said. “The training, leadership and selfless service that veterans have demonstrated throughout their military careers transitions perfectly to our company.

“Mesa is dedicated to providing responsible, reliable power generation anywhere our customers need it and our veterans are critical to that success… Without our support to military veterans, our company would not have realized the success that it has over the past several years.”

Gromer is a married father of five who enjoys spending time with his family, sports, and various outdoor activities.
