The $1.2 trillion infrastructure law, passed last year, provides $10.5 billion to harden power systems against growing threats like extreme weather and climate change, the DOE said, and a further $2.5 billion to help build new transmission lines.

The PHMSA issued the report after Freeport LNG disclosed earlier in the day a summary of the consultant’s review. PHMSA said it accepted the redacted report but would later make its own determination on what to exclude.
Freeport LNG’s November target “is not credible, nor is a December restart,” said Rapidan Energy Group consultant Alex Munton in a note. He puts a resumption of gas processing in the first quarter of next year “with longer delays possible.”
Federal regulators also warned that the New England region faced its highest energy costs in more than 25 years this winter due to tight heating oil supplies and fierce competition for LNG.
The request reveals a potential snag at a critical LNG production facility as U.S. producers try to ramp up exports to meet booming global demand.
PHMSA ordered Cheniere to shut two LNG storage tanks at the company’s Sabine Pass LNG export plant in Louisiana in February 2018 after plant workers discovered a one- to six-foot crack in one tank that leaked fuel into an outer layer.
