A record-setting Middle Bakken horizontal discovery was reported by Whiting Oil & Gas Corp. The Williston Basin well, #21-4H Tarpon-Federal, is in Section 4-152n-97w of McKenzie County, N.D. The producer initially flowed 7,009 bbl. of oil equivalent (4,815 bbl. of oil and 13.16 million cu. ft. of gas) per day following a 30-stage fracturing with sliding sleeves. A horizontal lateral in Middle Bakken was drilled southward to 20,307 ft. and the bottomhole location is in Section 9-152n-97w. True vertical total depth is 10,575 ft. The Denver-based company owns a 56% working interest and a 45% net revenue interest in the well. The company has controlling interests in four 1,280-acre Tarpon prospect spacing units and reportedly has the potential to drill a total of 12 Middle Bakken and eight Three Forks wells within the units.
