Description
Chevron has permitted a development test to increase recovery in producing St. Malo Field. A drillship has been contracted to drill #5PN OCS G21245 from a site in the southwestern portion of Walker Ridge Block 634. Water depth in the area is 6,800 ft. In September 2019, the San Ramon, Calif.-based company announced plans to begin a waterflood project in St. Malo Field. According to IHS Markit, the waterflood project is Chevron’s first in the deepwater Lower Tertiary Wilcox trend and is expected to contribute an estimated ultimate recovery of more than 175 MMboe. As part of the project, Chevron will drill two new production wells, three new injector wells and install topside injection equipment for the Jack/St. Malo floating production unit on Walker Ridge Block 718. St. Malo (Walker Ridge Block 678) Field was discovered in 2003, with St. Malo and Jack (Walker Ridge Block 759) Field coming online in late 2014.
