Eni Cyprus and TotalEnergies discovered gas at the Zeus-1 well in Block 6 following two other discoveries from Calypso-1 and Cronos-1 in the same block, both companies announced Dec. 21 in separate press releases.
Zeus-1 is 162 km off the coastline and 5 km west of Cronos-1, in 2300 m of water depth. It encountered 105 m of net gas pay in carbonate reservoirs. The estimated gas in place is between 2 Tcf and 3 Tcf.
Operated by Eni with both companies holding 50% interest, the discovery signals promise for Block 6 and future development in that area.
“This success at Zeus-1 further enhances the potential of Block 6, only four months after the Cronos-1 discovery,” Kevin McLachlan, TotalEnergies senior vice president, exploration said. “New data gathered from the well will assist our ongoing assessment of fast-track development options for the discovered resources.”
The well was drilled and tested with the Tungsten Explorer drill ship to evaluate data that will be used to further develop Block 6.
The Italian and French companies are present in other offshore blocks in Cyprus, with Eni operating Blocks 2, 3, 6, 8 and 9 and TotalEnergies operating Blocks 11 and 7 and present in 2, 3, 8 and 9.
