PGS ASA will begin data acquisition over the Barracuda-Caratinga field offshore Brazil following the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources’ (IBAMA) issuance of the final permit needed to commence PGS’ large 4D survey contract with Petrobras.
PGS’ seismic research and survey vessel, the Ramform Victory, is on the way to Campos from Rio de Janeiro to begin data acquisition for Petrobras in June, PGS said in a May 30 press release.
In September, the PGS Apollo, a source vessel, will join the Ramform Victory to complete more complex areas of the survey, according to the press release.
The contract, first announced in December 2022 and originally planned for startup in the summer of 2023, will have a duration of about eight months and be completed in 2025.
“We are very pleased that all permits are obtained and that we are about to start on the large Petrobras 4D contract,” said PGS President and CEO Rune Olav Pedersen. “PGS has acquired multiple 4D surveys offshore Brazil and gained significant operational experience in the region. We appreciate Petrobras’ recognition of our Ramform vessel acquisition platform in combination with our GeoStreamer technology, which are well suited for large, high-quality 4D acquisition programs.”
