TGS, with consortium partners PGS and SLB, commenced a multiclient 3D seismic project offshore Peninsular Malaysia, according to an April 3 press release.
Petronas in partnership with Malaysia Petroleum Management, aims to use the project, located in the Penyu Basin, to provide insight, from the acquired seismic data, on the exploration opportunities and assess carbon storage potential across the area for the upcoming Malaysia Bid Round.
The Ramform Sovereign survey vessel was mobilized to the 3,000 sq mile data acquisition area in March 2024. The data acquisition is expected to be completed in July 2024, with processing completion projected for June 2025.
TGS CEO Kristian Johansen said the Penyu Basin is one of Southeast Asia’s “most exciting” yet underexplored hotspots, with a potential of uncovering new exploration plays and carbon capture and storage opportunities.
