France’s TotalEnergies has followed through with its plan to sell 50% of its shares in West Burton Energy, which owns a 1.3-gigawatt gas-fired power plant and a 49 megawatt (MW) battery storage system in the U.K.
The buyer is EPUKI, the U.K. subsidiary of EPH, a private capital energy group based in Prague, Czech Republic. Total and EPUKI will operate the plant under a joint venture.
Total bought West Burton for 450 million euros (US$473.4 million) in June. The power station has three combined cycle turbines in Nottinghamshire, near Sheffield.
“Thanks to this operation, we are adjusting our net flexible generation capacity at 700 MW, which is consistent with the capacity required to support our renewables growth in the United Kingdom,” said Sophie Chevalier, senior vice president flexible power and integration at TotalEnergies. “This integration between flexible and renewable assets will contribute to the objective of our Integrated Power business to reach 12% return by 2030.”
