Each acquired 20% stake in Taoudenni Basin permit.

Algerian national oil company Sonatrach and Qatar Petroleum International have each acquired a 20% stake in the Taoudenni Basin in Mauritania from French oil company Total for an undisclosed price. Total is operator and previously owned 100% of the permit. It entered two production sharing contracts in January 2005 for onshore Blocks Ta7 and Ta8 with 58,000 square kilometers. Total reports that it is committed to establishing strategic partnerships with national oil companies both inside and outside of their respective countries.
