Enterprise Products Partners completed early steps toward a proposed $5 billion ethane project east of Houston described by analysts as a “world-scale petchem facility.”
Energy Transfer is the lone company in the project and continues its search for an equity partner or partners. It’s doubtful it would FID the project without an equity partner, an analyst told Hart Energy.
“We believe that we have the lowest cost of liquefaction in the world,” Venture Global LNG CEO Michael Sabel said, noting that since 2017, Venture Global has won over 80% of the 20-year contracts in the U.S.
The announcement by Enbridge follows Venture Global’s final investment decision on May 25 to build the $13.2 billion Plaquemines LNG project in Louisiana’s Plaquemines Parish.
Plaquemines is the first U.S. LNG project to reach financial close since Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass in August 2019. Calcasieu delivered its first LNG earlier this year.
“Matterhorn will provide premium market access with superior flexibility for Permian Basin shippers while playing a critical role in minimizing flared volumes,” WhiteWater CEO Christer Rundlof said in a release.
Freeport said it has not started to build Train 4 "due in large part to delays" stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
